Flavor Flav's Sterling Heights Restaurant Closed For Good
STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Flavor Flav's fried chicken joint didn't make it in metro Detroit.
The rapper-turned-reality-TV-star-turned-restaurateur — known for his big clock pendant and outrageous behavior — has permanently closed his chicken and ribs eatery in Sterling Heights.
After managers failed to pay rent on the place, Flavor Flav's Chicken & Ribs was served an eviction notice and shut down in June.
Celebrity gossip website TMZ now reports a judge granted a motion to stay on the condition Flav's business partners and the landlord came to an agreement on past rent. That never happened, however; and, on Thursday, the motion was officially denied.
In April, a casting call was held for a reality show pilot to be shot at the restaurant — but nothing came of it.
U-Haul trucks were seen outside the building this week, hauling furniture and equipment away.
The failed business' motto was, "Chicken you crave, perfected by Flav." Online reviews were decidedly mixed. One reviewer said, "The ribs were awful — they were dry, tasteless and yucky ... and expensive ... overpriced garbage." Wrote another: "Excellent fresh food made with love. Forget chicken shack... Flavs is the place."
The Sterling Heights location was the last remaining Flav fried chicken joint in the country — other restaurants in Las Vegas and Iowa also closed down.
The performer, whose real name is William Drayton, reportedly plans to open another location. Flav's business partner, Gino Harmon, said they already have a new place in mind, but he did not elaborate.
