First Lady Michelle Obama Visits Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - First Lady Michelle Obama is spending part of her day in Detroit Tuesday. She'll be at the Westin Book Cadillac for a Democratic National Committee Fundraiser just before 1 p.m., before heading to Chicago to focus on healthy food access for big cities.
Her stop in Detroit is billed as an "Obama Victory Fund 2012 Reception with the First Lady" in the 2012 battle for the White House. Michigan Democratic Party Chairman Mark Brewer said the candidates know Michigan is important.
"We not only have the First Lady, the President, the Vice President visiting us for political reasons but also, you know, they're here to demonstrate how they're supporting us here in Michigan. In terms of support for the auto industry, for example, the President was in the state a couple of weeks ago, and all the other things they've done to help Michigan since President Obama has been in office," Brewer said.
After the Detroit reception, the First Lady will attend an evening fundraiser in Chicago, where the invite says Mrs. Obama will pose with you in a family photo -- for $10,000.
