Firefighters Save Colleague Who Fell Through Stairs
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit firefighters had to rescue one of their own Tuesday morning while battling a fire on the city's west side.
WWJ's Vickie Thomas reports there were some tense moments as crews battled a two-alarm blaze at a three-story apartment building on Byron and Webb roads, just west of Hamilton.
Detroit Fire Chief Edward Boss said all occupants were evacuated and as a firefighter pulled a hose up through the stairwell, it gave way.
"He had went through a stairway, but the guys grabbed him, caught him. We though he was down, injured, but EMS checked him out and he's okay, he's still on duty," said Boss.
Boss said the fire could be a case of arson.
Meantime, firefighters are bracing for an especially hot day on the job, as temperatures will approach 100 degrees. An excessive heat warning has been issued from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. Tuesday. Read more, here.
