Firefighter Injured As 3 Homes Burn In Vacant Detroit Neighborhood
DETROIT (WWJ) - Fire crews had their hands full Wednesday morning after a blaze destroyed three homes in northern Detroit.
The fire took off around 3:30 a.m. on Coventry Street, in a neighborhood near 8 Mile Road and I-75 that is full of vacant, abandoned, stripped and dilapidated houses.
Chief Michael Ridley said three homes were completely involved when firefighters arrived on the scene.
"They're vacant dwellings. Apparently it might have been arson, but we've got it under control and they're out," Ridley told WWJ's Mike Campbell.
One firefighter slipped on the ice and fell. He was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital with a back injury but is expected to be okay. No other injuries were reported.
A cause of the fire remains under investigation.
