Fire Rips Through Vacant Houses In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit firefighters had their work cut out for them Wednesday morning after several vacant houses went up in flames on city's southwest side.
The first fire was reported at two vacant homes on Cicotte and Otis Streets, near Michigan and Livernois avenues.
Reporting live from the scene, WWJ's Ron Dewey said the fire started in one vacant house and spread to another. One home is completely burned to the ground, while the second floor of the second home is collapsed.
About three miles away, another fire was reported at a home on Melville and Crossley streets, near I-75 and Springwells.
Just a block away from that fire, another blaze was reported at a home on Melville and West End streets. Glenda Ford lives just feet away from the burning home that she says has been lit up three times in recent weeks.
"I've been trying to call the city to get it taken down because now I got trouble with rats coming by the house and everything, but I've been trying to get it tore down and I'm not getting nothing. Nothing is getting done. My house is messed up from the first fire and now this is the third time. I'm tired of it," she said.
It wasn't immediately clear what caused any of the fires or if anyone was injured. Investigators are looking into whether the fires could be related.
