Fire Quickly Put Out At Detroit Senior Apartments
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) -Authorities say a fire at a downtown Detroit senior high-rise apartment building has sent four people to the hospital, including one with burns that were described as minor.
The fire was reported shortly before 7 p.m. Monday at the 12-story Griswold senior apartments, between State and Grand River, prompting an evacuation. Most residents returned to their apartments by about 11 p.m.
Several units suffered water damage and a few people were treated for smoke inhalation, although no major injuries were reported.
While fire officials aren't sure exactly what caused the fire, they say it started in one unit before spreading to others. Firefighters extinguished the flames just minutes after arriving.
The Southeastern Michigan Region Red Cross provided shelter to about six residents whose apartments were damaged.
