Fire Prompts Evacuation At Marathon Refinery
DETROIT (WWJ) - A Marathon fuel refinery was evacuated, Thursday morning, in southwest Detroit.
A spokesman said there was a small fire in the plant, on Fort Street near Schaefer, so the alarms were sounded. Some contractors were evacuated, while some Marathon workers remained inside the facility to deal with the situation.
Smoke was seen near the facility around 9:30 a.m., although fire officials told WWJ Newsradio 950 there were not called the scene as the fire was contained by on-site crews.
According to a statement by Marathon officials, the fire was sparked in one of the stacks.
No injuries were reported.
