Fire At Troy Office Building
An electrical fire at Troy's tallest building has forced the Society of Automotive Engineers out of their 16th floor headquarters. The Troy PNC building is located along Big Beaver Road and I-75.
The first call went into the fire department at 7:05 a.m. Assistant fire chief Dave Roberts said they called in a second station when firefighters encountered the smoke.
SAE Operations Director Jack Pokrzywa told WWJ's Ron Dewey the fire happened just as they were preparing to open a conference with hundreds of attendees.
"We moved it to the Marriott across the street," he said. "Everything's under control at our end."
Moderate to heavy smoke filtered down to the 8th floor of the building. There were no injuries, but the building had to be evacuated briefly.
It's expected the SAE offices will have to remain vacant for a couple of days until cleanup is finished.
