Fire At Rochester Hills Condo Complex
ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) - Eight condominium units were destroyed and several neighboring units were damaged in a fire Wednesday in Rochester Hills.
Sheriff's deputies shut down Adams Road between Hamlin and River Trail Drive to give the firefighters room to work after the fire broke out at the Oakwood Parks complex shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Resident John White said the fire started very quickly.
"I heard nothing, I smelled smoke, stepped outside, walked around the building -- I live in the second building from this one -- and flames were shooting 20 and 30 feet, both out of the units and up into the sky," White said.
Crews from several local fire departments assisted in fighting the fire, which took about an hour to extinguish. The condo complex was evacuated during that time.
One neighbor told WWJ Newsradio 950's Marie Osborne she returned home to find the building ablaze, with her dog trapped inside. She said firefighters were able to get her pet out unharmed.
Rochester Hills Fire Chief Ron Crowell said no one was injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
