Elderly Woman Dies In Northville Condo Fire
NORTHVILLE TWP. (WWJ) - One person is dead following a fire Monday morning at a Northville Township condominium complex.
Fire crews from Northville Township, Livonia and Plymouth rushed to the scene on Jamestown Circle off Northville Road, south of 7 Mile, to find the Jamestown town home unit fully engulfed, with flames shooting out the front.
Northville Township Public Safety Director John Worth said the resident of that home, believed to be a 96-year-old woman, died in the blaze. Her name was not immediately released.
Another resident of the complex, Bobbie Lovas, described the view from her house.
"I was on the phone and I heard my husband say, 'Did someone call 911?' and I thought he was joking with our neighbor downstairs," she told WWJ Newsradio 950's Pat Sweeting. "And he came running upstairs and we have what you call a bird's eye view right there. We saw the smoke coming up first and it was just, I mean seconds, until we saw flames coming out. It burnt so fast I couldn't believe it."
Two additional condo units were damaged, but no further injuries were reported.
Worth said this was the township's first fatal fire in 35 years.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
