Final Push In Red Kettle Fundraising Campaign
DETROIT (WWJ) - It's a last day for the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign and they're still about $250,000 away from their $8.2 million goal.
"From our standpoint it's easily in site, so we're just encouraging people to pitch in there and make that last second contribution to get us over that goal," the Salvation Army's Major Curtiss Hartley.
Hartley said, although most people think about the Red Kettles over the holidays, the campaign continues longer than people think.
"During the holidays is that really big push and, of course, the red kettles come in off the street after Christmas is over. But out campaign always runs until the last day of January," Hartley said.
Donations to the Red Kettle Campaign are used to help provide food, shelter, utility assistance, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, among other things.
