Final Day For Red Kettle Donations At Metro Detroit Storefronts
DETROIT (WWJ) - The familiar chime of the bells ringing for The Salvation Army will end at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24 – traditionally the final day of the iconic red kettles at storefronts.
The Salvation Army's famous red kettles will come in from over 400 storefronts, yet the organization is still down $300,000 from where it needs to be to raise $8.2 million by Jan. 31, 2012.
Salvation Army's Captain Caleb Senn said they appreciate any help you can give.
"We're behind where we were at this point last year and the discouraging thing about that is we are up in need. We're seeing more people come to us but the money is not coming to us like it was. So, it is extremely urgent to get out today and put the money in," said Senn.
Senn says the money raised helps to serve 3.1 million meals a year and provide shelter and clothing for thousands in Metro Detroit. Where does your money go? 85 cents of every dollar goes right to the people who need help; $10 helps feed one person for an entire month.
