Wind-blown field fire near Dundee damages several buildings

Several buildings, including a home, had significant damage in the aftermath of a wind-blown field fire Friday afternoon in Dundee, Michigan.

Multiple fire departments responded to the call on Tuttle-Hill Road in Monroe County.

"Fortunately, no injuries were reported," Dundee Volunteer Fire Department said in its report.

The fire started in a field that afternoon, "with wind being a significant factor in the escalation of the blaze," the report said.

Dundee was assisted on site by firefighters from Ida, Summerfield, Exeter, Milan and Salline. Ridgeway Fire Department provided station coverage for Dundee during the call.

While the crews were still working at this fire scene, some of them were called to another structure fire that resulted from an uncontrolled burn and a woods fire.

"It is essential to exercise caution when burning outdoors during this time of year, as the dry foliage facilitates the rapid spread of fire, even with minimal wind," the report said. "Stay safe and keep the matches inside!"
