Ferndale's Livio Gets UK Partner
MUNICH, Germany -- Ferndale-based Livio Radio announced Tuesday at Telematics Munich 2011 they are the exclusive partner for the Cambridge, U.K.-based chipmaker CSR and will provide all mobile phone application integration for CSR's products -- including vehicles and consumer electronics -- using CSR chips.
Livio Radio founder and CEO Jake Sigal said variety, safety and easy-of-use were the driving forces behind Livio Connect software, the exclusive technology included in CSR chips.
Through Livio Connect's software development kit, developers are able to build branded Bluetooth-enabled products, powered by CSR chips that work with multiple mobile phone apps and operating systems.
The end result, Sigal said, is seamless integration that will allow automakers to get apps safely into the car through software featured in chips that already power a majority of built-in Bluetooth systems on the road today.
"If every app company individually worked with every car company, the 'wheel' would be reinvented about 10,000 times," Sigal said.
Instead, Livio Connect's exclusive software included in CSR chips lets apps "talk to" Livio-enabled CSR products. Livio Connect software is included in individual mobile phone applications.
Livio Connected apps include 977 Music, AccuRadio, Digitally Imported, Grooveshark, jacAPPS, Live365, the Livio Car Internet Radio App and Rdio.
For OEMs and aftermarket manufacturers, and app developers, that means giving more drivers more options, easy and safe access to their products.
Demonstrations of this new capability are being held at Livio Radio and CSR's joint booth 34 at Telematics Munich 2011. Development kits for consumer electronics and most automotive manufacturers are now available. Retail product availability is slated for 2012.
