Felony Charges For Teen Who Made Facebook Threat
SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) - A Shelby Township teen is facing terrorism-related charges after he allegedly made an online threat to kill some Junior High students.
Sterling Heights police said the 14-year-old, a former student at Jeannette Junior High, posted a Facebook status update stating that he would return to the school and everyone was going to die.
"It scared the girl that read it enough to contact her mom, who contacted us," Lieutenant Kevin Reese told Fox 2 News.
No one was hurt.
The teen, whose name is being withheld due to his age, now faces charges of falsely threatening terrorism and using a computer to commit a crime. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in jail and pay up to $20,000 in fines.
He was arrested last Friday at his father's home in Royal Oak and is being held at the Macomb County Youth Home.
Police said four students who "Liked" the Facebook status may face disciplinary action at school.
