Feds File Child Porn Charges Against Ex-UM Doctor
ANN ARBOR (WWJ/AP) - The federal government has filed child pornography charges against an ex-resident physician at University of Michigan Hospital.
Stephen Jenson, 36, was charged Tuesday with receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography.
The charges came the same day the university said a hospital accrediting group isn't expected to act following its investigation of a six-month delay in reporting the suspected pornography to police.
University health system chief executive Ora Pescovitz said The Joint Commission reviewed the university's response to the delay as well as school plans that include an outside review of campus security.
Police started an investigation in November, after hospital security alleged that Jenson left a thumb drive containing child porn in the Pediatric Emergency Department. A female resident said she reported it to hospital officials in May.
Investigators searched Jenson's home and removed his computer. He was arrested days later.
As reported on AnnArbor.com, 97 images and four videos of suspected child porn were found on Jenson's electronic devices. Investigators believe the alleged illegal conduct occurred between January 2011 and Dec. 2, 2011.
Jenson, who worked at the hospital until December, was previously charged by Washtenaw County prosecutors with four counts of possessing child sexually abusive material and is scheduled to return to court in that case Thursday for a preliminary hearing.
If convicted in the federal case, Jenson faces a minimum of five years in prison.
