Federal Officials To Inspect Bus After Ohio Crash
CINCINNATI, Ohio (WWJ/AP) - Federal investigators will join state and local authorities probing a weekend bus crash that injured at least 35 people on the way to Detroit.
The Saturday morning crash along northbound I-75 has been classified as a "mass casualty incident" — and that brought in the U.S. Department of Transportation to investigate.
The majority of people on board — at least 35 out of 52 — were injured; some of them seriously. Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton said two of four people taken there by CareFlight were admitted; one with a broken leg.
As of Sunday night, at least six people were still hospitalized at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton
How did it happen?
Reports from one passenger that the bus driver was slumped over the steering wheel just before the bus crashed into a tree, a fence, and then rolled over at least twice before resting in cornfield, about 26 miles north of Cincinnati.
The feds plan to inspect the bus to see if there were any mechanical failures that led to the crash.
The State Highway Patrol and Butler County sheriff's office are also investigating, as is Greyhound.
