Federal Agents Raid Home Of Ex-Wayne County Commissioner

DETROIT (WWJ) - Federal agents conducted a raid Wednesday at the home of a former Wayne County official and his wife, who is the daughter of Detroit's interim Chief of Police.

Cindy Burnette, with the Criminal Investigations Unit of the Internal Revenue Service, confirmed the multi-agency raid on the Detroit home of ex-County Commissioner Moe Blackwell and his wife, Kim.

While it's not known what investigators were looking for, law enforcement agents carried between 15 and 20 boxes out of the home on Woodstock, some apparently containing tax records.

Burnette said she couldn't comment further, citing the ongoing investigation.

It wasn't immediately clear if the raid had anything to do with the embezzlement charges against Blackwell's father, Arthur Blackwell II -- the former mayor of Highland Park who was appointed the city's emergency manager. Arthur Blackwell II is accused of feathering his own nest by paying himself $11,000 a month while overseeing the city's finances.
