FBI Takes Aiyana Jones Case
The feds are now investigating the death of a 7-year-old Detroit girl, killed last spring during a police raid on her home.
Michigan Congressman John Conyers said that he asked Justice Department for an FBI investigation. In a written statement, the Congressman said the shooting "has shaken the entire city community and demands a thorough and independent investigation."
Back in May, police, looking for a murder suspect, tossed a flash bang grenade through the window of the girl's home. Witnesses said the police came in shooting.
Police insist that Aiyana was shot when the officers' gun accidentally discharged.
A Michigan State Police probe continues.
An A&E reality show film crew was present during the shooting, which added to controversy surrounding the incident.
Some speculate that the shooting was one of the several contributing factors mentioned by Detroit Mayor Dave Bing on the day Police Chief Warren Evans was asked to resign.
