FBI Looking To Hire Hundreds Of New Agents, Thousands For Other Positions

DETROIT (WWJ) - Looking for a job? The FBI is hiring.

The federal agency has a plan to recruit 740 agents throughout this year, according to Felix A. Rivera, Assistant Agent in Charge in Detroit. They're also looking to hire 240 intel analysts and more than 2,000 professional staff employees.

Rivera told WWJ's Zahra Huber they're looking for candidates who are in good physical condition and can pass the physical test — something not everyone can do.

But these jobs are not for everyone. Rivera there are a few things that would disqualify a candidate, including:

"Not being a U.S. citizen, have used marijuana in the last three years, have used an illegal drug or a combination of illegal drugs other than marijuana, including use of steroids, during the last ten years, have ever sold an illegal drug for profit; also, have been convicted of a felony."

The requirements to become an agent are a bachelor's degree with a minimum of three years professional work experience and a willingness to taken an assignment anywhere within the FBI's jurisdiction.

Applicants for agent positions also must between the ages of 23 and 36; and, most importantly, be in "excellent physical condition" with the ability to pass a rigorous physical fitness test.

"I've got to stress that," Rivera said. "We've got a lot of candidates that have failed that test."

For the non-agent jobs, Rivera said they're looking for people with backgrounds in various areas including finance, computers and foreign language.

Rivera said the decision to hire more agents is not related to last weekend Orlando nightclub shooting.
