FBI Joins Investigation Into 3 Roadway Shootings

PITTSFIELD TWP. (WWJ/AP) - The FBI has joined Michigan and local police in investigating three shootings involving vehicles on southeast Michigan roadways.

The shootings were reported Monday evening in Washtenaw County -- the first one right after the second, both within Bridgewater Township.

Then, about 15 minutes later, a 72-year-old woman reported a bullet struck her driver's side while she was traveling along Michigan Ave. in Pittsfield Township.

No injuries were reported.

Pittsfield Township safety director Matt Harshberger tells MLive.com investigators "do believe they're probably related."

FBI spokesman Simon Shaykhet told The Associated Press the agency is working with township, county, state and other federal authorities on the shootings.

The FBI typically enters such cases when local authorities seek its technical or staffing help. It doesn't necessarily indicate a suspected federal law violation.

Authorities are seeking public help in finding leads and evidence in the shootings.

Anyone with information is asked to call state police's Brighton Post at 810-227-1051 or Pittsfield Township at 734-822-4911.
