Father Waives Hearing In Daughter's Burning Death
A Macomb County man will be arraigned later this month on 2nd degree child abuse charges in the death of his 6-year-old daughter.
The girl died from severe burns, last month, following a fire pit accident. Police said the child was sitting two feet away when Majid Al-Shara threw an accelerate on the fire, sparking a much bigger blaze. The girl was burned over 90-percent of her body.
The 41-year-old Lenox Township man has waved his preliminary exam in District Court and William Hackle III bound the case over to Macomb County Circuit Court.
Monday, Majid Al-Shara still had bandages on his arms from burns he sustained trying to put out the flames on his daughter, and his attorney said he's still in pain from those burns.
His wife, Cheryl Edgil, tells WWJ's Beth Fisher this was an accident.
"I'm very said. I only want him out [of jail]. I want him out. All I want is for him to get out. He's suffering, very bad...for months he's going to be sitting in jail. I'm hurting for him," she said.
Al-Shara is being held in the Macomb County jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond. He still faces possible deportation, once the case is resolved.
