The 19-year-old driver of a vehicle that crashed Tuesday afternoon on the Southfield Freeway has died of his injuries, the Michigan State Police, Metro Detroit District, reported.

The crash happened about 1 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the Southfield Freeway, also known as M-39, near Plymouth Road in Wayne County.

After a call was placed to Detroit Regional Communication Center, troopers arrived and found a passenger vehicle that was rolled over on its side. The driver was partially ejected and trapped.

First responders removed him from the wreckage, and took him to a local hospital.

Shortly after 4 p.m., the Michigan State Police gave an update on social media that the driver, identified as a 19-year-old male from Dearborn, had died at the hospital.

All northbound lanes of the Southfield Freeway in that area were closed for investigation and cleanup until about 2:15 p.m., according to Michigan Department of Transportation traffic reports.

The crash investigation is continuing.
