PORT HURON, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) - A fatal shooting and a vehicle fire, both of which were reported overnight, are under investigation in Port Huron.

"The Port Huron Major Crimes Unit and Detective Bureau immediately responded and are actively investigating both incidents," the Port Huron Police Department said in a press release. "Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle fire may have been the result of arson. Investigators are working to determine if the vehicle fire and the homicide are connected."

The vehicle fire was reported about 12:13 a.m. Tuesday in the 3000 block of Vanness Street. On arrival, officers found the vehicle just off the road and fully engulfed in flames. Port Huron Fire Department responded to put out the blaze.

Then about 12:31 a.m., police were sent to a home in the 2500 block of Vanness Street on a report that someone may have been shot. On arrival, officers found a 35-year-old male, deceased from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.

The Michigan State Police Crime Lab is assisting with the investigation and processing evidence from both scenes in St. Clair County.
