Fatal Rollover Crash Shuts Down Mound Road In Warren For Hours
WARREN (WWJ) - A stretch of Mound Road was closed for about five hours Monday morning following a fatal rollover accident.
It happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. Monday on northbound Mound at 12 Mile Road in Warren.
Warren police say a 26-year-old Roseville man was killed when he lost control of his older-model Jeep Cherokee while trying to make a lane change.
The Jeep left the roadway and hit a curb before flipping, according to police. That's when, police said, a fire hydrant went through the roof on the driver's side of the vehicle. The driver died a the scene. The male passenger was taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment of what police said were non-life threatening injuries.
Although an investigation is ongoing, police said alcohol did not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
Northbound Mound was closed between 11 and 12 Mile roads while an accident reconstruction team snapped photos and took measurements at the scene, but reopened shortly before 10:30 a.m.
Traffic along I-696 to northbound Mound was tied up through the entire morning rush due to the accident.
Police said the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. His name was not immediately released.
