Fatal Pedestrian Accident On I-96
DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say a man walking along I-96 after his car broke down was struck and killed by a postal vehicle.
Police say 55-year-old Dennis Caver's car had broken down on westbound I-96, east of Warren Avenue, in the early morning hours Friday. He left his disabled vehicle along the freeway's shoulder and was walking toward the exit ramp when he was struck.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Mike Campbell reports Caver, a small business owner who lived Bloomfield Township, was taken to Henry Ford Hospital where he died from his injuries.
Caver's sister, Lorraine, said he will be missed.

"He's just a person who always would make you laugh, always had something funny to say -- very knowledgeable about a lot of things. So, he was just one who would always been engaging in conversation," she said.
"Dennis was just such a happy, outgoing person. He was a person who never met a stranger, Lorraine Caver said. "He had so many friends, so many friends. And its comforting at this time to hear from, you know, all of the people that he's known," adding that her family is trying to find a funeral venue large enough to accommodate all of the people he knew.
The accident is the second fatal crash involving a pedestrian in less than 24 hours on Metro Detroit freeways. On Thursday morning, an off-duty Ann Arbor firefighter was struck and killed on I-696 in Farmington Hills. (More on that story here).
