Farmington Tennis Club Mysteriously Closes Up Shop
FARMINGTON (WWJ) - Who's at fault? Members have no place to go after a local tennis club is suddenly padlocked, without notice.
The only sign that the Farmington Tennis Club is closed can be found the marquee out front, which reads: "Thanks for the Memories."
There wasn't a note or any kind of notice on the locked doors Monday when tennis pros showed up to teach their classes. One instructor, who didn't want to be named, said they weren't warned of the closing and are now out of jobs. He said students had just paid their dues and league fees through May.
One member who has frequented the club for decades said she was disappointed this is how it has ended. She said she's now working with American Express to try to get back money she paid for spring dues.
City officials say the tennis club, which has been open for more than 30 years, has two years of unpaid taxes. Records show no sale or listing for the property at this time, and no foreclosure.
Owners of the tennis club could not be reached for comment.
