Farmington Hills Teen Arrested In Cell Phone Thefts
FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - Police say a 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with at least two recent cell phone thefts in Farmington Hills.
The teen, a Farmington Hills resident, is expected to be arraigned in 47th District Court on Friday.
Police say the teen was arrested Thursday after being tracked down by officers from the South Oakland Narcotics Intelligence Consortium and the Farmington Hills Police Directed Patrol Unit.
At least eight thefts, or attempted thefts, of cell phones have been reported in the city since May 24, police said. The thefts typically occur during daylight hours in public locations. In most instances, police say the suspect approaches the victim and engages them in conversation before snatching their cell phone and running away.
While the teen is currently in custody, police are encouraging citizens to remain alert to these types of thefts, since they are a national trend and other suspects may be still be at large.
