Farmington Hills Police Officer Facing Child Porn Charges Resigns
FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - A Farmington Hills police officer facing child porn charges has quit the department.
Matthew Parsons, 48, had been suspended without pay when he was charged with computer and sex-related crimes in May.
Parsons allegedly used his computer and phone to access child porn.
Farmington Hill Police Chief Chuck Nebus said Parsons, a 20-year veteran of the department, was charged following an investigation by the attorney general's office after the Crimes Against Children Task Force served a search warrant on May 25 and interviewed. He was then arraigned on five counts of using a computer in the commission of a crime and eight charges of sex offense — other.
Nebus described the charges as "shocking and devastating."
According to Attorney General Bill Schuette's office, Parsons resignation is effective Friday, June 15.
Parsons' case is working its way through Oakland County courts. Details of the alleged crimes have not yet been released.
