Farmington Hills Party Store Owner Killed In Shooting
FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - A party store owner has been shot and killed in what police are calling an attempted robbery. The incident took place at Tom's Party Store in the Eight Mile and Inkster road area of Farmington Hills.
The 59-year-old owner was discovered by a customer and Police Chief Chuck Nebus explains what they are doing to try to catch the suspect.
"We are also checking the area - we had other departments assist us looking in the neighborhood, we also had the Michigan State police helicopter out," said Nebus. "We will leave no stone un-turned to try to get the killer."
"The description that we have right now is a black male, who is late teens, early 20s, tall, thin wearing a green jacket and may have left the scene on foot here," he said.
A resident who lives nearby, Kenneth Johnson, says he went into this party store every day.
"It's terrible, it's a sad day in our community, sad to see someone who would have gave you the shirt off his back - to go - it'll just never be the same around here," said Johnson.
Just after the shooting Jackie Rothfuss, who lives in the neighborhood spoke with WWJ Newsradio 950:
"...there are so many police cars I can't really see, but I see a lot of traffic," said Rothfuss. "It's all blocked off - you couldn't get through if you wanted ... there are cars behind me, I don't know where they think they are going, 'cuz they are not going anywhere."
Neighbors in the community are shaken by the murder.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
