Fans Pumped As Wings Go For Record
TROY (WWJ) - The Detroit Red Wings hope to make history Tuesday night. They're making a run for the record of the longest winning streak on home ice, and fans are excited.
Michael Krowse of Royal Oak said that even though it's Valentine's Day he plans to watch the game. His wife is a fan, too.
"She loves the Red Wings, so it will be a nice evening together once we put the kids to bed," Krowse told WWJ's Sandra McNeil.
Bernie Typle drove down to Hockeytown Authentics in Troy, all the way from her home in Algonac, just to buy a Wings flag.
"The one I have has just being flying and flying but I haven't flown it this year yet. So, I'm hoping to get a new one today, but I'm thinking I better not put the new one out because I don't wanna jinx 'em!" Typle said.
On her way out of the store, Typle found a penny which, according to her, means the Wings will win.
Now with 20 consecutive victories on home ice, Detroit (38-17-2) has tied the NHL record set by Boston in 1929-30 and matched by Philadelphia in 1975-76. The Red Wings became the third team to reach that mark by beating the Flyers 4-3 on Sunday.
The Wings' box office phone has reportedly been ringing off the hook and, Tuesday afternoon, there were only single seats left for the game.
