Family Still Searching For Answers 3 Years After Ex-Basketball Star Found Dead
DETROIT (WWJ) - Relatives are still searching for answers three years after a former high school basketball standout was found dead in his home on Detroit's east side.
Thirty-one-year-old Devell Beard was found dead on Nov. 20, 2010 inside of his home in the 20000 Block of Bradford, between State Fair Street and 8 Mile Road.
Neighbors told police two men entered the home between 10:30 and 11:50 that night. After hearing gunshots, Beard's neighbor decided to check on him. When the neighbor didn't get any response from Beard, he called 911 and was advised to kick the door down. Once inside, police say the neighbor found Beard lying on the floor, dead from multiple gunshots.
Police haven't identified any suspects or made any arrests in the case.
Beard, a graduate of Detroit's Central High School, was awarded a full basketball scholarship to Alabama State University. Family members said Beard had everything going for him when he was killed -- he was the father of three children, engaged to be married and a successful business owner.
