Family Searching For Answers Following Fatal Hit-And-Run
DETROIT (WWJ) - The family of a hit-and-run victim issued a tearful plea for the public's help Thursday, in an attempt to find the person responsible for the accident back in September.
Jamar Clay, a 33-year-old father of three, was killed in the hit-and-run outside the Ace of Spades Club near 7 Mile and Lahser Rd. in Detroit on the morning of Sept. 21.
"I would just like to say that, because my son is gone, I'm never going to see him again," said Clay's mother, Debra Clay. "I miss him; I Iove him. Please, can someone just help us, anyone can they just speak up and say something."
According to police, the accident took place in the parking lot of the club, where Clay had attended a friend's bachelor party. After a fight broke out, Clay and two other victims were run down by a driver of a mini van. Investigators are still trying to determine if the driver of the mini van was involved in the prior altercation.
Jamar's cousin, Joysun Collins, said that the family wants to hear from the two other people were hit by the driver during the incident.
"The only description that we have is a mini van," Collins said. "We don't have make, model, color, or anything. From what was told to us, they saw him one minute, and when they looked back, all they saw was his shoe and his hat in the street."
The other two victims were taken to a hospital before filing a police report or coming forward with any information.
A reward of $2,500 is being offered to anyone that can lead to the culprit's whereabouts.
Police are asking anyone who and saw the accident to call 1-800-SPEAK-UP with any information. An extra $1,000 will be added to the reward if the needed tip is received by midnight Tuesday.
