Services For Taylor Police Officer
Police from across Michigan and several other states gathered at Wayne County Community College's downriver campus for Thursday's services for fallen Taylor auxiliary police Lt. Dan Kromer. The 54-yr-old died from injuries last week while tending to a stranded motorist along I-94, where he was struck by a passing car.
Auxiliary chief for Taylor PD Ronald Vaughn says he is heartened by the different departments represented from as far away as Wisconsin, Indiana, Tennessee, even Florida. "When you have a fallen officer, it's not just the city supporting you it's the entire country," he said.
Services took place seven weeks following the shooting death of Taylor Police Cpl Matthew Edwards, the first officer to be lost in the line of duty in the history of the force. Vaughn said services like these underscore the dangers confronted by law enforcement, be they auxiliary, or sworn police officers.
"The community has really had a tough time with it, Vaughn said. "And the support they have given us has been great knowing what they have gone through the past seven weeks."
The funeral procession traveled past the police firing range, where Lt. Kromer was an instructor.
Donations to the family of Lt. Kromer are being accepted in care of the Thin Blue Line at any PNC bank branch.
