Family Owned Garden Center In Warren Hit Hard By Fire

WARREN (WWJ) - Fire at a long-time family owned garden center in Warren has destroyed part of that business.

WWJ's Beth Fisher reports that it's an emotional scene Sunday at a long-time garden center in Warren. A portion of Young's Garden Mart around since 1924 was destroyed by a fire Sunday morning.

It's the second tragedy for the owners, the Young family, in two weeks.

Their adult son died two weeks ago, and Sunday's fire destroyed one-third of their business.

Russell Onyskow is the son-in-law of the owners.

"The Christmas part of the store just engulfed in smoke," said Onyskow.

"Hopefully ... just take it one day at a time, and start over just doing stuff," said Onyskow.

One of the owners suffered chest pains at the scene, and was being checked out by paramedics. He is okay.

The fire caused at least $100,000 dollars in damage. No word on the cause as of yet.
