Family, Friends Remember Publisher Sam Logan
DETROIT (WWJ) - Many are saying their final goodbyes to a well-known media leader. Visitation is underway this week at Swanson Funeral Home on Detroit's west side for Michigan Chronicle Publisher Sam Logan who died last week at age 78.
Family friend Arthur Simons stopped by to pay his respects.
"I've known Sam for approximately 35 to 40 years and we used to play a little golf together," Simons told WWJ Newsradio 950's Pat Sweeting. "We'll miss him dearly."
Also visiting on Wednesday was Oak Park City Councilman Emile Duplessis.
"I've known Sam for about 40 years. He was just starting at the Chronicle when I was starting with the Coca Cola company, so we went through many, many turbulent years together," said Duplessis, adding that Logan encountered a lot of inequities over those years.
"He did not revolt. He did not cause turmoil. He sat back and was a very laid back individual that took things with the realization that someday things would change, that he'd have an effect," Duplessis said.
Logan, who published The Chronicle for 40 years, died of a heart attack at his home on December 28.
Visitation continues Wednesday and Thursday. Funeral services are set for Friday at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit.
