Family Escapes Royal Oak House Fire Unscathed
ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - It was a close call for a Royal Oak family Wednesday morning, after a fire quickly spread throughout their home.
WWJ's Ron Dewey reports the fire started around 3 a.m. at the two-story home on the corner of California and Delaware, in the Woodward and I-696 area.
Royal Oak Fire Chief Chuck Thomas said the early morning fire proved challenging.
"When we arrived, we had a fire in the second story of the house and it got up into the attic and once it got into the attic it was hard to put out," said Thomas.
The family was able to escape without injury, but watched helplessly as their home was ravaged by the flames.
Royal Oak firefighters were assisted by Ferndale and Madison Heights Fire Departments, and the fire has since been extinguished.
While there is extensive damage throughout the house, it is not yet clear what exactly caused the fire.
