Fall Of Saigon Remembrance Day
DETROIT (WWJ) - Beginning Saturday the Vietnam Veterans of America Detroit Chapter Nine will host a Remembrance Day marking nearly 40 years since the Fall of Saigon.

Detroit Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter Nine Associate Member Irene Spooner says Vietnam Veterans and members of the Vietnamese American Association of Michigan gathered outside the Chapter on Woodward at Temple for the annual Fall of Saigon Remembrance Day ceremony.
"The yellow and red flag of South Vietnam, they raised this on our flagpole. And it has a lot of significance for them because this flag is outlawed in Vietnam, so when they see it flying surrounded by their family and friends at our chapter, it's a pretty moving ceremony," says Spooner.
April 30th 1975 was the date the last Americans departed Saigon and the North Vietnamese took over.
