Severe Thunderstorm Watch For SE Michigan
DETROIT (WWJ) - A lot of people will be keeping their eyes on the sky Saturday evening as there is a possibility of severe weather. A Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for all of southeast Michigan.
National Weather Service and AccuWeather forecasters say the storms are likely to hit between 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday. Click here for the latest weather information.
The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 12 a.m. for Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Washtenaw, Wayne, Genesee, Lapeer, Lenawee, St. Clair, Shiawassee, and Sanilac counties.
A watch means conditions are favorable for development of severe weather in the designated area.
A warning means a severe thunderstorm or tornado has been observed or indicated by radar. People in the path of the storm should take immediate precautions.
The National Weather Service says the strongest storms will be capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and hail up to one inch in diameter. An isolated tornado is also possible. If the storms develop, they will produce torrential rainfall that could lead to localized flooding.
Early Saturday storm damage, including downed trees and power lines, was reported in Midland and near Gladwin, in mid-Michigan.
