Bomb-Detecting Dog To Patrol Mount Clemens Race
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ/AP) - A dog that's trained to detect explosives is expected to patrol a Macomb County running event as part of increased security following the Boston marathon bombings.
Organizers of Saturday's Let's Move Festival of Races said they requested the measure to assure the public that the event is safe.
Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said it's the first time that his department's canine team will be at the annual event.
Race organizers also have contracted a private security business, and the sheriff's department plans to have about 130 deputies and reserve personnel along the race route.
Now in its third year, the Let's Move Festival typically attracts 3,000 runners and about 5,000 spectators. The event starts and ends in Mount Clemens, and includes Clinton and Harrison townships.
