3 Escape Home Explosion In Ypsi Township

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a house explosion in Ypsilanti Township.

The incident happened on Foley and Gattegno Streets, near I-94. When officials got to the scene, they smelled natural gas — but it's not clear if it's related to the explosion.

Lavaunte Reed was visiting his father when the explosion happened.

"I walked over there and there was a guy walking out and he had cuts and his pants were all tore up and cuts everywhere all in his leg and he was bleeding," said Reed.

"A lady walked out with a baby and they were like, 'are you okay?' and she said 'yeah' and he was looking for his dogs."

" ... it sounded like it was a small explosion, and I heard glass shatter," he said.

The woman and the baby — two of there people in the house at the time of the explosion — were unhurt.

Police said the man inside ran out of the home to chase after their dog, and never returned to the scene. He was found later at a hospital nearby, although the extent of his injuries was unclear.

There was no word of what caused the explosion, as authorities continued to gather information on the incident.
