Explosion At Empty MSU Lab Prompts Partial Evacuation
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Officials say an explosion at an empty science lab at Michigan State University prompted an evacuation of part of a building on campus.
No injuries were reported following the Friday morning explosion at Giltner Hall in East Lansing.
University police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor says portions of the building close to the lab were evacuated. McGlothian-Taylor says the explosion occurred in a refrigerator where a chemical was being stored. Details about the chemical involved weren't immediately released.
No fire was reported. The Lansing State Journal says two windows were broken as a result of the explosion. WLNS-TV reports the lab was empty at the time.
The explosion is under investigation.
