Ex-prep Coach Convicted Of Sex With Teen Player
A former prep softball coach accused of having sex with a teenage player has been convicted of third-degree criminal sexual conduct in Michigan's Thumb region.
A jury in Tuscola County returned the verdict Monday against Cory Fritz of Sebewaing, who was a softball coach at Owendale-Gagetown High School.
The 27-year-old Fritz said he didn't have sex with the girl until she was 16. But the prosecutor said it began in 2005 when she was 14. Defense lawyer Kevin Rieman says Fritz is disappointed with the verdict.
Authorities say the girl became pregnant, and the remains of a baby are buried somewhere in the woods in Tuscola, 100 miles north of Detroit. The jury did not hear what may have happened to the baby.
