Ex-House Speaker Faces Gun Charges
A former Michigan House speaker facing a misdemeanor charge for being intoxicated while carrying a gun at his home will stand trial. Craig DeRoche faces an Aug. 25 jury trial following his court appearance Wednesday in Novi's 52-1 District Court.
Police say DeRoche was arrested last month after walking into a bedroom with a gun.
Witnesses persuaded DeRoche to turn the gun over. Police then arrived and DeRoche told them he'd done nothing wrong. Police say his blood-alcohol level was 0.13.
Messages were left Friday with DeRoche and his attorney.
DeRoche was sentenced to six months' probation after pleading guilty in April to impaired driving.
The Republican left the House after 2008 because of term limits.
