Ex-DPS Board Prez To Appear In Court

Ex-Detroit School Board President Otis Mathis is scheduled to be arraigned in Wayne County Circuit Court on misconduct in office and obscene conduct charges.

Prosecutors say Mathis will appear Thursday morning before Judge David Groner.

Mathis is accused of fondling himself during a June 16 private meeting with ex-schools Superintendent Teresa Gueyser. He's free on a $50,000 bond,

Mathis stepped down as president in a letter to the board June 17.

In it, Mathis wrote that he ``made inappropriate actions toward a professional employee of the board'' and that he regretted his actions.

He tried to withdraw his resignation, but his ex-colleagues wouldn't allow him back.
