Merit Network Sets Netowrking Event: Merit Network will present "Networking 2013: A Summit for Network Pros," a third annual summit on the state of the art in networking. The summit will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12 at the Sheraton Ann Arbor. Registration for attendees from Merit member organizations is $79. Through the contributions of the Merit community supporters, Merit members are invited to register a second person to attend at no additional charge. Merit will also stage "OpenFlow: A Practical Introduction," a workshop that will be held the following day in Ann Arbor. The keynote speaker for the summit is Joe St. Sauver, manager of Internet2's nationwide security programs and manager of the InCommon Certificate Service, who will speak on "Networking in These Crazy Days: Stay Calm, Get Secure, and Get Involved." The day's agenda will also include presentations from Jeff Utter from Michigan State University on deploying WiFi in a residence hall environment; Jeff Crawford from East Grand Rapids Public Schools on Network Access Control for K-12; R.P. Aditya and Pradeep Patel from the University of Michigan on cloud-based video collaboration and migrating voice services from TDM; Pete Hoffswell from Davenport University on implementing a high-availability web-based service with anycast; Nick Oas from Michigan State University on firewall setups; and Charles J. Antonelli from the University of Michigan on using Wireshark and tcpdump for packet capture in network analysis. There will also be technical presentations from sponsoring organizations on the latest networking trends and technologies and opportunities to learn from your fellow Michigan networkers.The event will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. The hotel is at 3200 Boardwalk Drive in Ann Arbor. Limited rooms for Merit Network visitors are available at the Sheraton Ann Arbor for $104 per night for standard rooms (call (734) 996-0600 and ask for the Merit Network rate (corporate code 384860). Merit members can also register to attend both the summit and OpenFlow: A Practical Introduction, which will be held the following day in Ann Arbor. The price to attend both events is $435. This price is for Merit members only and does not include the Bring-a-Colleague option. Attendees from organizations affiliated with Great Plains Network, NCREN, NYSERNet or WiscNet may attend for $99 per person. Potential members from higher education, K-12, libraries, government, health care and non-profits may attend the summit for $119. Others may attend the event only through special arrangement.
