Community Development Career Conference for Flint-area teens Nov. 30: Development is the key word for the 60 high school students anticipated to participate in the Nov. 30 career seminar offered by the Employer Education & Training Connection at the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce. Community and educational development go hand-in-hand during the Community Development Career Conference -- a unique opportunity for teens to explore and engage their interests in careers available in Community Development, including careers focused in architecture, engineering, urban planning and revitalization. All high school students in Genesee County are welcomed to apply to participate. Tim Herman, CEO of the Regional Chamber, kicks off the conference at 9 a.m. at the Riverfront Banquet Center in downtown Flint. Students will then take a walking tour with Ridgway White, Project Manager for Uptown Developments, and Joel Rash, Manager of Downtown ARCH. Several new developments will be explored, including The ROWE Building, Wade Trim and the recently refurbished Durant Hotel. Students will also hear from key players involved in the renovations, as well as the planning of the downtown Flint revitalization, and how the restoration and redevelopment has positively impacted the community. Following the walking tour there will be a question and answer session. If you are a student interested in a career in community development, take advantage of this opportunity to expand your knowledge and further develop your goals. Space is limited to 60 students, and registration is on a first-come first served basis. Students are advised to dress weather appropriate for the walking tour of downtown Flint. (Shuttle transportation will be available in inclement weather.) The Riverfront Banquet Center is located in the Riverfront Residence Hall at 1 Riverfront Center West, in downtown Flint (directly across the street from the University Pavilion on Saginaw St.).
