Online Tech, High Bit Security Offer Free Educational Webinar on Safe Mobile Payment Acceptance: The ability to accept mobile payments is considered a financial boon to small businesses that previously did not accept credit cards, as well as a gateway to a portable point-of-sale system for bigger firms. Two security-minded Michigan technology companies see the proliferation of mobile payments as an opportunity to educate merchants and developers on how to protect sensitive credit cardholder data. Adam Goslin, of Michigan-based information security firm High Bit Security, will guest host the latest in a series of free educational seminars offered by Online Tech, titled PCI DSS Guidance for Mobile Security, at 2 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, May 7. Data security for mobile payments remain fluid while transactions are anticipated to hit the $1.3 trillion mark by 2015. Guidelines released in late 2012 established security standards for software developers and mobile device manufacturers, but at the time the PCI Security Standards Council said it is too early to codify requirements. In February 2013, the council released a document covering security guidelines for merchants accepting mobile payments. This webinar will review the highlights and pitfalls contained within that supplement, designed to educate merchants on the factors and risks that need to be addressed in order to protect cardholder data when using mobile devices. This is a wonderful opportunity for a granular understanding of the more difficult PCI standards as they relate to the growing trend of mobile payment processing.
