Hot Shots Career Fair in Ann Arbor on Tuesday, March 29: Come and join Ann Arbor Spark, with resume in hand, for a new, more relaxed take on the traditional career fair. The free Hot Shots Career Fair takes place at Melange Bistro Wine Bar in Ann Arbor on Tuesday, March 29 from 5 to 7 p.m., where you will have a chance to speak with representatives from innovative companies in the region. An impressive selection of companies will be in attendance, including Dynamic Edge, MandyandPandy.com, Mango Languages, McCreadie Group, Motown Initiative, NSF Intl, POLY, Trossen Group, Ultra Electronics-Adaptive Materials, VC Web Services, and others. Find out if 'I.T. Pay$' at March 31 Career Night: National employment for computer network, systems, and database administrators is expected to grow by 30 percent through 2018, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Most jobs in the field require a bachelor's degree or specialized industry certification. Walsh College and Wayne County Community College District will host "I.T. PAY$," a free IT career exploration night, on Thursday, March 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the WCCCD Eastern Campus, 5901 Conner, just south of I-94 in Detroit. James Darrow, director of Technical Services at Ilitch Holdings Inc., will be the keynote speaker. Other speakers will review IT security issues and offer a forecast of the local IT job market. Agreements between WCCCD and Walsh College allow students to seamlessly transfer credits as they work toward associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees in a variety of business and information technology disciplines.
Nuclear Energy Town Hall Meeting Invites Public Questions: The University of Michigan will hold a nuclear energy town hall Saturday, March 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. The public is invited to pose questions to a panel of University of Michigan nuclear engineering professors and a scientist from a national laboratory. In light of the recent events in Japan, panelists welcome questions about the current situation overseas, nuclear safety, licensing, research, proliferation and waste management or other topics. Panelists are John Lee, a professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences; Bill Martin, a professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences; Kim Kearfott, a professor in the departments of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences and Biomedical Engineering, as well as Radiology at the UM Medical School; David Dixon, a scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory; Moderator James Holloway, a professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences and associate dean for undergraduate education at the College of Engineering. The event will be held in Auditorium 3 in the Modern Languages Building at 812 E. Washington St, Ann Arbor. Great Lakes Panel On Restoring Our Freshwater Seas: The University of Michigan will sponsor a panel on improving the Great Lakes, "Restoring Our Freshwater Seas," from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 30. Panelists will discuss the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and other efforts to restore the Great Lakes. Panelists are to include Marie Colton, director, NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory; Abed Houssari, manager of environmental strategies, DTE Energy; Marc Gaden, communications director and legislative liaison, Great Lakes Fishery Commission, lecturer, University of Michigan Program in the Environment; and Andy Buchsbaum, regional executive director, National Wildlife Federation. The moderator will be Allen Burton, director, UM/NOAA Cooperative Institute for Limnology and Ecosystem Research. The event is free and open to the public and will take place in Room 1024 of the Dana Building in the UM School of Natural Resources and Environment.
