Ann Arbor Spark Offers 'Starting Your Own Business': Ann Arbor Spark, the economic development agency for Washtenaw County, will offer a session on Starting Your Own Business Friday, Jan. 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Spark East, 215 W. Michigan Ave. in Ypsilanti. This forum you will learn about personality traits that impact entrepreneurialism, creating a marketing plan for your business, legal, accounting, and risk considerations, product development, business plans and financing options. Health Care Economic Forecast Coming To Grand Valley: Health care experts and economics faculty members will share trends and predictions regarding health care in West Michigan at an annual summit hosted by Grand Valley State University's Office of the Vice Provost for Health. The 2013 West Michigan Health Care Economic Forecast is set for Friday, Jan. 11, at the L.V. Eberhard Center, 301 W. Fulton St., on Grand Valley's Pew Grand Rapids Campus. The Alliance for Health will sponsor a panel presentation, "Predictions for Health Care in 2013," from 8:45-9:45 a.m., featuring the following people: Jeff Connolly, president West Michigan operations and managed care, Blue Cross Blue Shied of Michigan;  Nick Lyon, chief deputy director, Michigan Department of Community Health; Dr. John MacKeigan, executive vice president and chief medical officer, Spectrum Health;  David Seaman, executive vice president, Michigan Health and Hospital Association; and David Smith, president and CEO, The Employer's Association. The panel will be preceded by a discussion of area health care trends by GVSU economics faculty professors Sonia Dalmia and Paul Isely, at 8 a.m. Breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. The summit is free and open to the public. Tech Town Sets Open Pitch Night: A polished pitch comes with practice. Entrepreneurs with an early-stage, technology-based business are invited to refine their skills at Open Pitch Night, co-presented by TechTown Detroit and Bizdom. Not looking to pitch but passionate about entrepreneurship? Come network, listen to pitches and offer your candid feedback. You'll leave inspired. Those interested in pitching will be entered into a drawing upon arrival. A Bizdom or TechTown representative will draw 15 names from the pool at 6:15 p.m. Pitches will begin at 6:30 p.m.; each entrepreneur will get three minutes to pitch followed by two minutes of open Q&A. Presenters must pitch a business based in Southeast Michigan. Experts from TechTown and Bizdom will be on hand to provide feedback to the entrepreneurs when presentations conclude. Cost is $5 to register and includes pizza. Cash bar. The event will be held Tuesday, Jan. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Majestic Cafe, 4140 Woodward Ave., Detroit. Open Pitch Night is hosted quarterly.
